The concert honors America, the homeland for people of freedom and high ideals. Not only the patriotic sounds of America the Beautiful and Battle Hymn of the Republic, but the songs of progress surging across the land….Down by the Riverside, Shenandoah, Deep River, and the title song from the popular musical, Oklahoma.
American composers Morton Lauridsen, Randall Thompson and Leonard Bernstein are honored. The repertoire moves across the country in Elijah Rock, Homeward Bound, and Ghost Riders in the Sky. The concert ends with a reflective setting of Leonard Bernstein’s Somewhere, a song longing for an America with a place for everyone.
